Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize for "Hope" and "Change"

Will Malven

Well, I'm not exactly certain how it happened, but I slipped through Alice's Looking Glass last night and woke up in Wonderland.

The Nobel Peace Prize, which has long been of questionable merit, was awarded to President Barack Hussein Obama for...umm...err...nothing.

Now I have made no secret of my contempt of those Norwegian Nitwits who preside over this particular sham, especially since they awarded the prize to former President Jimmy Carter, more as a slap at former President Bush than for any meritorious achievement.

This latest absurdity is simply the icing on the cake.

These self-satisfied, self-admiring, specimens of fatuous fantasy have chosen to award this prize to one of their own. Obama is the gold standard of vacuity. He has done nothing since his inauguration except make speeches, mostly attacking his own nation, and bask in the golden light of his own ego.

As to the merits of this prize one can only stop and admire such a stunning example of pandering to race - Obama's an African American, you know - and rewarding of nebulous promises of "hope" and "change," rather than actual accomplishment. It appears that he was granted this prize for the great achievement of being born the son of a Kenyan father and a Kansan mother and that he can give speeches filled with wonderful, soaring, but empty rhetoric.

Talk about trivializing an already besmirched and diminished award. One has to reach to find words adequate for this hilarious hypocrisy. With this award, the Nobel committee has exhausted the lexicon; absurd, ludicrous, "made a mockery of," "stunning," all seem inadequate in describing this move by the Nobel Numbskulls.

I mean, come on folks, nominations for the prize closed twelve days after Obama was inaugurated. Even the White House thought it was being "punked" when they were informed that the Empty Suit-in-Chief had been awarded the prize.

If the party being honored first believed it to be a joke, how seriously should the rest of the world - the adults of the world - take it.

Perhaps the greatest dismay has been expressed by people in the Middle East. Reuters reports the following (link to full article in title).

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize to mixed reviews

OSLO (Reuters) - President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for giving the world "hope for a better future" and striving for nuclear disarmament, in a surprise award that drew both warm praise and sharp criticism.
--------------snip-------------

The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip and opposes a peace treaty with Israel, said the award was premature at best.

"Obama has a long way to go still and lots of work to do before he can deserve a reward," said Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri. "Obama only made promises and did not contribute any substance to world peace. And he has not done anything to ensure justice for the sake of Arab and Muslim causes."

Issam al-Khazraji, a day laborer in Baghdad, said: "He doesn't deserve this prize. All these problems -- Iraq, Afghanistan -- have not been solved...The man of 'change' hasn't changed anything yet."

Liaqat Baluch, a senior leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, a conservative religious party in Pakistan, called the award an embarrassing "joke."

Imagine that, the people of the Middle East, who have been generally hostile to the efforts of former President Bush and supportive of our terrorist enemies and who warmly embraced President Obama's election, find the Nobel committee's choice to be absurd.

As for merit, as to why they made the decision they did, Reuters reports that the Nobel nominating committee stated:

"Very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future."
Apparently they were all caught up in that "Hope and Change you can believe in" campaign slogan. One can only laugh and shake his head in amazement at how those on the Left think (if one can call what occurs in their little heads "thinking").

It used to be that one was rewarded for what he achieved in life, now it appears that mere aspirations and promises are sufficient.

Liberals really are self-parodying if you only give them a chance. Honestly you liberals, we're laughing at you, not with you.

By the way, how's the "Hopey-Changey" thing working out for you folks?

Long Live Our American Republic!!!!
