Newspaper journalism gets words of praise Print media's role vital, Obama says (Making "The State Run Media" Official)

To quote The Great One, "There you go again."

Obama said in an interview with the Toledo Blade, that he "would be happy to look at" the bills now being introduced into Congress to bail out or otherwise assist the dying print media.

President Obama Marxes On:

Let's see:

  • First he nationalized the banks and financial institutions,
  • then he takes over ownership of the automotive industry,
  • then he begins the attempt to control and restructure the energy industry,
  • then he begins his attempt to socialize the health care industry, and
  • now he and the Democrats want to make the already badly tainted "independent" press beholden to the national government

All of that in his first nine months. Man this socialist hasn't wasted any time with implementing the "change" part of his "Hope and Change" promise. Well here is a part of the Toledo Blade article/interview with the usual link in the title:

Newspaper journalism gets words of praise Print media's role vital, Obama says

Saying he is a "big newspaper junkie," President Obama expressed hope on Friday that newspapers can find their way through the financial crisis most are now mired in.

In an Oval Office interview with editors from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Blade, the President talked about the vital role journalism and newspapers play in American society.

"Journalistic integrity, you know, fact-based reporting, serious investigative reporting, how to retain those ethics in all these different new media and how to make sure that it's paid for, is really a challenge," Mr. Obama said. "But it's something that I think is absolutely critical to the health of our democracy."
Really? Obama should hire out as a comedian. I mean, "Journalistic integrity...fact-based reporting, serious investigative reporting?" Since when has the mainstream media been doing any of that where Obama and his administration have been concerned?

What a joke! Okay, I guess he means like the diligent and relentless way in which the New York Times reported on the Van Jones scandal...oh yeah, they didn't.

Well then maybe he was talking about the intense and detailed coverage of the Tea Party movement and their march on Washington D.C. was covered by all of the mainstream media...oh yeah, it wasn't.

The President didn't even know that there was going to be a huge rally in D.C. according to him. Now since we know that President Obama would never lie about something like that, I submit it as further proof that the mainstream media failed to cover the roughly one million citizens who met in Washington to protest government spending and the Obama march towards socialism.

My favorite comment by him in this interview was:

"I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,"
Hah-hah! What a card. You are "concerned" that you are getting your sorry behind kicked in the debate on the issues and you would like to stifle all dissent. What a jokester he is...and prevaricator.

Sorry Mr. President, it would appear that all of the "fact checking" and all of the putting of "stories in context" has been done by the blogosphere you so blithely condemn. It sure as hell hasn't been done by the people you are now considering funding with tax-payer money; they have been at your beck and call since you first announced your candidacy.

This is a seriously concerning proposal coming out of Democrats in Congress and the White House. Our press is supposed to be independent of the government, not dependant on the government. Hence the first amendment to our Constitution:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Turning the print media into dependants of the federal government renders them subject to pressure from that government and thus negates any possibility of "...freedom of speech, or of the press..."

Such a press would instantly become suspect as the paid propaganda wing of the federal government and any editor would be brave indeed to "bite the hand" that fed him.

Like most ideas (well, pretty much all that I can think of) which come from the Democrat Party this one is seriously flawed and probably unconstitutional, and most certainly contrary to the intent and design of our forefathers in writing our Constitution.

This President and this Democrat Party controlled Congress just continue to get worse and worse.

One more thing Mr. President. We live in a REPUBLIC, not a "democracy."
Long Live Our American Republic!!!!

Obama errs in claiming that journalism must be paid for. Journalism is a service, and like any other service must justify itself based on its value to the buyer. If the buyer perceives little or no value, then journalists must find a new line of work.
