Congressman Joe Wilson Speaks Truth to Power

Will Malven
9/10/2009

"Oh, The humanity!"

During President Obama's speech last night, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) shouted out "You lie!" when the President asserted that no illegal aliens would be covered by Obama's health care reform proposal.

Although Representative Wilson immediately apologized for his outburst...even calling the White House to apologize directly to the President (I mean a genuine apology, not one of those non-apology apologies that Democrats make after they misbehave)...Democrats and liberals have taken great pains to demonstrate the humbrage at such an assault on the decorum of Congress and such a show of disrespect towards the President.

Here is a portion of CNN's report (the full article is linked to in the title):
Joe Wilson shouts to Obama during speech: 'You lie'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Republican House member shouted "You lie" during President Obama's health care speech to Congress on Wednesday, and members of both parties condemned the heckling.

After the speech, South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson issued a statement apologizing for his outburst.

"This evening, I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president's remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill," the statement said. "While I disagree with the president's statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."

Wilson also called the White House to apologize and spoke with Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who accepted the apology on the president's behalf, according to a senior administration official.
Wow, it's good to see what a real apology looks like after all of the dissembling by Democrats like Van Jones.

Now old "Uncle Joe" Biden and Nancy "Bela" Pelosi were so upset at Representative Wilson's outburst that for a moment I thought Pelosi's head was going to explode ("Uncle Joe" just looked confused, as though he feared he might have said it) and they scrambled to get the seating roster so that they could identify who it was that "spoke truth to power."
[Funny, I seem to remember that Democrats once were in favor of "speaking truth to power," in fact I am certain that I got that phrase from Nancy Pelosi's own mouth.]
And...yes it is offensive when a Congressman breeches the decorum of the House chambers, but it is far more offensive to have a President stand up before the American people and assume that the American people are too stupid to know that he is lying to them.

For my part, I applaud the good Congressman, both for his outburst of genuine indignation at the President's blatant lies and for his courtesy and integrity in making a real apology to the President.

Joe, you are my latest hero.

The criticism being leveled at Representative Wilson rings hollow when it was actually the President, lying repeatedly, who was offending the decorum of the House.

How dare he get up in front of the American people and Congress and claim that over two thirds of the cost of his proposed health care plan would be paid for by curbing "waste and abuse?" How dare he claim that his health care plan would not cover illegal aliens, when this government cannot even determine who the illegal aliens are? How dare he claim to have the backing of "doctors" when he knows that the AMA (which has come out in support of his agenda) only represents 20% of doctors? How dare he, of all people, come out and accuse others of using the health care reform debate "as an opportunity to score short-term political points" when the whole exercise of health care reform is a politically motivated power grab by Democrats and the President?

...And even worst of all...how dare he claim that those who rely on Medicare when, as Karl Rove pointed out last night, the president’s own White House Web site says there will be $622 billion in Medicare cuts?

Oh yeah one more thing lest we forget it was the Democrats who first breeched House decorum during a Presidential address. It was the Democrat...these same "outraged" Democrats who have gotten so "wee-weed up"...who booed and shouted out "No!" during President Bush's 2005 State of the Union Speech, a speech which carries with it a far greater burden of decorum than this ad hoc address by our current President, as he discussed the approaching bankruptcy of Social Security.

Apparently Democrats weren't quite so concerned with observing propriety and House decorum when the former President was speaking.

Wow! Democrats are hypocrites...who knew? There were no apologies coming from Democrats following their outbursts.

This isn't to say that I believe that one wrong act justifies another, only that Democrats are always far too ready to jump on the actions of others while their own actions are generally worse...or another way of saying it..."What's good for the goose is good for the gander."

I am celebrating Representative Wilson's actions because I am tired of President Obama's serial lying. I am tired of having a President that lies every time he opens his mouth...not even President Clinton was as pathological a liar as is Obama...and that is saying a lot.

I'm certain that Representative Wilson will suffer some form of House discipline for his actions...most probably he will have to take to the floor and formally apologize to the House...but my heart is with him.

Would that more Congressional Republicans demonstrate such heart and outrage at being lied to.

Long Live Our American Republic!!!!

Do you have any real knowledge of politics or decorum? You're just a talking head spewing crap onto the internet. The REPUBLICANS (in caps because you think they can do no harm) did not take umbrage to the democrts protests??? Wow. What about the only outing of a CIA agent by the REPUBLICANS because her husband did not support their false claims? Some would consider that treason. But not our good old REPUBLICAN buds on Cap Hill. They just slap backs and say, "Well, she's a woman. Shouldn't be a CIA agent anyway..."

Oh boy comments from the peanut gallery...another "brilliant" liberal speaks...

Joe Wilson (no relation to the Congressman) outed his own wife. Additionally she was not in covert status and she drove her own personal car from her home to Langley.

The original source for the story that the late Bob Novak published came from a Republican, true. It came from Richard Armitage, the darling of Democrats.

The dispute was not that he didn't support false claims, it was that he didn't disprove anything, in fact, his report confirmed the truth of what former President Bush said in his address. Sadam Hussein did seek yellow cake from the government of Niger.

If you can't get your facts straight, if you can't be honest, then anything else you say is irrelevent...not to mention stupid.

Liar.

I know it's hard to accept that complete sentences have been brought back to the white house! Someone half brain dead could talk circles around bush but we all listened to his speeches! Even though he sounded like an idiot no democrat disrespected him like that. The POTUS should be respected whether you agree with him or not!

You mean..."Uh-uh-uh-'complete sentences'-uh-uh-read off of-uh-a-uh-uh-teleprompter?" Or maybe you mean "Uh-uh-impromptu-uh-uh-comments-uh-uh-uh-like-uh-travelling to-uh-uh-57 states and having-uh-uh-uh-two more-uh-uh-to go." Yeah, he can speak in complete-uh-uh-sentences.

You liberals make me laugh with your hypocritical, absurd comments about the brilliance of President Obama.

If the man is so smart, then why doesn't he release his academic records? President Bush released his (and they were better than Al Gore's - OOPS), speaking of whom, Al Gore released his academic records as did John Kerry-Heinz (though his military records remain safely secreted away from public scrutiny).

Like all arrogant (meaning ignorant) liberals, you conflate malapropisms with ignorance...the two are not the same.

As for "no democrats [sic] disrespected him for it," you're delusional. Perhaps you have forgotten that Democrats booed President Bush when he began to speak of reforming Social Security to make it solvent during his 2005 State of the Union Speech, but since I specifically mentioned that in the article, I guess you are too stupid to read...liberals usually are.

Perhaps you have forgetten Harry Reid's unapologetic comment calling President Bush a liar...he still has not yet apologized for that remark, in fact he has stated very clearly that he stands behing that remark.

I guess that President Obama isn't the only liar around here...eh, "Anonymous?" (Gutless too, aren't you?)

I love the way you people cast your stones from behind the veil of anonymity. It proves once more that you lack the courage of your convictions...liberals usually do, just as they are innvariably hypocrites.

Where to start? Joe Wilson violated the decorum of the House odf Representatives. His outburst was an act of complete disrespect to the President, to the House, and to the American people. There is no defense for it. An apology is poor repayment for such a violation, but more to the point, a private apology does little for a public outburst, disingenuous at best.
Second, why stoop to personal attacks, calling someone stupid? It's like a fourth grade playground trade of barbs.
Third ...a viel of anonymity? Grow up. An open line blog, that is exactly what you should expect. An anonomous comment can come from either side, as you should well know. and they do.I

Where to start? How about; are you seriously arguing that booing a President when he is giving his State of the Union Speech isn't a violation of decorum?

Are you seriously arguing that the booing of a President when he is giving his state of the Union speech isn't "an act of complete disrespect to the President to the House and to the American People?"

Give me a break! Your selective reaction to Joe Wilson's outburst, for which he apologized, and complete silence over the Democrats' booing of President Bush speaks volumes as to how genuine your concern for the "decorum" truly is.

Funny, I don't recall a single liberal or Democrat calling for the Democrat Representatives and Senators to apologize to President Bush for showing him "disrespect."

Your faux outrage rings hollow.

Shouldn't a President lying to...intentionally seeking to deceive...both Congress and the American people from the podium in a joint session of Congress be considered "an act of complete disrespect to the President, to the House, and to the American People?"

AS to the personal attacks; I am offended by liars.

If one lies to me to make an argument, it means either he thinks I am not intelligent enough to see through his lies...which makes him stupid, or he is too lazy to determine the facts and has chosen to believe what he is spewing on faith...which makes him equally stupid.

Then again, if one believes what those on the left generally espouse; say for example, socialism works, or single payer medical care is a viable model that will provide care superior to that which Americans receive currently, or that appeasement has ever worked, or that Obama is intelligent-oops-then that individual is incontravertably...stupid.

Well...to be slavishly honest, they might not be stupid, they might just as likely be naive, gullible, and living in abject denial of reality.

Oh yeah, they also might simply be evil...but I choose to be charitable and simply believe them to be stupid.

Oh, I know that many both Left and Right hide behind the veil of anonymity...though on my web page the hatred and personal attacks invariably come from those cowards on the Left...but that doesn't lessen my contempt for them.

If one lacks the courage to express his opinions in open then I believe he is a coward. It is not as if we are currently living under similar circumstances to those our founding fathers faced when they were writing pamphlets anonymously. The likelihood of being beheaded for treason or suffering some other form of retribution is miniscule...at least for now (with men like Obama in charge, I don't know how long that will last).

Lastly I do so because it so infuriates liberals to be treated as they have treated conservatives for the past several decades.

It is hilarious to see liberals howl in outrage when the tactics they have used for the past 50 years against any who dared to differ with their views are used against them.

I commend you for commenting openly and respect you for doing so.
