A Sad Loss: Tony Snow Dies of Cancer at 53
They say the flame that burns the brightest often burns out too quickly.Today the world is just a little bit dimmer; today Conservatives and all Americans lost one who embodied much of what is best in us.
Tony Snow was a man of intellect with a comprehensive knowedge of "inside the beltway" politics and he used that knowledge to expose the flawed thinking of those on the Left (and on the right), but he always did so with grace and wit.
He rarely allowed any frustration or anger to show during his interviews, preferring to allow his guests to hang themselves with their own words.
Throughout his career, Tony was disarmingly charming and, because of that inherent goodness, well thought of even among his adversaries.
No one can say it better than President Bush's former chief speech writer, William McGurn:
"Tony did his job with more flair than almost any press secretary before him. He loved the give-and-take. But that was possible only because Tony was a man of substance who had real beliefs and principles that he was more than able to defend."He faced his cancer with courage, confidence, and (at least to the public) an unwavering optimism.
He was a man of strong Faith, many talents (he played 6 instruments) and family and leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Jill, his son Robbie, and his two daughters, Kendall and Kristi.
Tony, you will be sorely missed. Thank-you for making politics in the United States just a little more civil, a lesson many of us could stand to learn better.
Robert Anthony Snow:
Born June 1, 1955
Died July 12, 2008
Rest in Peace.
