Eugene Robinson: "I Hate Dick Cheney, See How Much I Hate Dick Cheney"
Col. Jessep Goes A-HuntingOkay Eugene, let's talk about whose truly dangerous. Let's talk about the purveyors of hatred on the Left both in the Democrat Party and in the Media, yellow rags like the Washington Post. Let's talk about Al Goreda whose little visit to the Middle East and whose anti-America hate speech to the Arabs is guaranteed to stir up additional anti-American sentiment. We've seen the results of statements and actions of people like Al Goreda in the riots and building burnings of the last couple of years by the Arab people. Who is a greater threat to America, Dick Cheney wanting to drill in the Alaskan Tundra, or Al Goreda and people like yourself undermining the War on Terror, undermining American foreign policy, and undermining our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan? How about those in the Main-Stream Media who reveal top secret information to our enemies just to help promote the sales of a book their about to release? Or maybe those who spread stories about torture of Arab prisoners in "secret CIA prisons" of which even now they have failed to give proof or even any evidence.

I told you people Dick Cheney was dangerous.
Let's all wish a full and speedy recovery for Harry Whittington, the man Cheney accidentally shot on Saturday while they were out in the Texas boonies hunting quail. As for the trigger-happy vice president, let's hope he takes this unfortunate episode as a hint to pack up his shotgun and go home. Lord knows he's done enough.
The man is out of control.
Then again, out-of-control is the way this whole administration operates: Ready, fire, aim. Global war on terrorism, global war on poultry, what's the difference? You see something moving, shoot it.
Sorry, Harry, my bad.
It's been clear for some time that Cheney came to office with a revanchist agenda, and he has pushed so hard in his campaign to assert autocratic powers for the White House that even his allies on Capitol Hill have begun pushing back. No wonder, given the way he treats them. On electronic spying, Cheney has essentially told Congress that if any members would like to discuss checks and balances, they're welcome to talk to the hand.
His uncompromising drill-and-guzzle position on energy makes a lot of oil industry executives sound like tree-huggers. When the subject turns to measures that could actually begin to lead this country toward energy independence, such as conservation and alternative fuels, Cheney begins checking his watch and barely tries to stifle his yawns. But let someone raise the prospect of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which couldn't even begin to slake America's energy thirst, and he lights up with such glee that it's impossible not to think of Mr. Burns on "The Simpsons."
Conservation sounds like one of those sissified foreign ideas. Drilling, now that's what America is all about -- at least the America that spends its weekends on a 50,000-acre ranch in south Texas with a bunch of fellow millionaires, shooting at quail.
Typically, Cheney's office didn't bother to tell anyone for more than 18 hours that the vice president of the United States had shot someone. A vice presidential shooting doesn't happen every day, and I, for one, would appreciate being informed whenever the man who's just a heartbeat away from the presidency peppers a 78-year-old attorney with birdshot. But Cheney apparently is taking his cues from Jack Nicholson's character in "A Few Good Men," the ultrapatriotic Col. Nathan Jessep: "You can't handle the truth."
Cheney seems to believe that we want to know far too much about what our government is up to. He doesn't have to tell us who came to the White House and engineered the administration's "Happy Days" energy policy; he doesn't have to tell us whom the National Security Agency is spying on or how it's doing it; he doesn't have to tell us anything about the conduct of the war on terrorism that this administration is waging in our names. Anyone who leaks information to try to keep us informed, such as the unnamed whistle-blowers who told of the secret CIA prisons and the unauthorized domestic surveillance, will be hunted down. (No shotguns involved, one hopes.) Of course, at times when public opinion is trending perilously the wrong way, Cheney apparently is happy to play the Washington game and leak information that bolsters his argument and tears down his opponents. According to press reports last week, Cheney's former aide Scooter Libby now says it was his "superiors" who instructed him to do the kind of leaking that has him facing trial on federal charges.
It is they who seek to undermine the activities of our government for political reasons who are the true threat to America. It is they who are the real danger.
I can handle Dead-Eye Dick accidently shooting an close friend and feeling so embarrassed and so harrassed that he is reluctant to reveal the story. I can understand that reluctance given the constant barrage of attacks he has been subjected to by those, like yourself, who hate him just for being in office, even if I don't excuse it. Even a man of great personal inner strength and of naturally good humor can feel harried after such a constant barrage of hate and vilification by those whose only goal is to be in charge of everything, whose only motivation is hatred. Your column is not even amusing, just vile.
How petty and small you are Eugene in your cheap attack, laced as it is with ennuendo, lies and hatred.

The media is not to blame for the state of America and the world. The only people to blame are in the Bush administration. They're the ones who invaded Iraq on false pretenses, they're the ones who foment the anti-American hatred around the world. The problems with conservatives is that they don't take responsibility for the problems they cause. They blame the Democrats, the media, or other countries. It's time you got your heads out of the sand and take a look at what you have created. How dare you call anyone who disagrees with you unpatriotic or un-American. America was built on dissent. If anything, you are un-American for wanting to undermine our inherent rights to express our discontent with the current administration. So quit blaming Al Gore, Eugene Robinson, or the "leftist" media. If you want anyone to blame, look in the mirror and blame those people who support Bush, Cheney, and their cronies. You shall all reap what you have sown. The age of the neocons has ended. They have ruined our standing in the world. Our reputation that took two World Wars to build has been ruined in seven years. America cannot tolerate another Republican administration.
Keep telling yourself that oh courageous "anonymous." It's always the lying Liberal Idiots that are afraid to identify themselves. Last time I checked, we were doing pretty well internationally. France has now elected Sarcozy, Germany has Merkel at the helm, and I don't see any major changes coming out of Britain now that Brown is in charge.
The problem with you Liberals is that you cannot distinguish between legitimate disagreement and sedition. We are at war. When your talking points become the inspiration for the talking points of our enemies, you are "giving aid and comfort to the enemy." If you ever bother to read the Constitution you will find that happens to be the definition of treason. Punishable by death.
For the past four and a half years you and your traitorous buddies in the media have been working tirelessly for out defeat in Iraq and Afghanistan. People like you tic off every American death in eager anticipation of being able to brag about them and how bad we are for causing those deaths. Funny how the very men and women who are those put at risk keep returning for more...funny how every recruitment goal is met even while we are expanding the size of our military.
Guess that puts you in the minority. Even the Democrats are realizing that Iraq is a bad issue for them in the next election. That's why the press, their propaganda arm, has virtually quit mentioning Iraq.
Sucks to be you...dumb, dishonest, and gullible.
By the way, be sure and thank your Democrat politicians for funding our troops without any restrictions...again.
Thanks for visiting, I needed the laugh. Come back anytime.
So you are doing pretty well internationally...hmmm??? Well, John Howard is no longer prime minister in Australia because of Irag, Brown is going to withdraw his troops by the middle of next year, and France and Germany won't committ troops to Irag. Wow you are doing so well!!! I am not a traitor; I love this country and its freedoms. You must have taken a page out of Joseph Goebbels' playbook.
Keep believing that we're working on the defeat of our military in Iraq and Afghanistan. The President's actions are leading to the defeat of the militart. Since the beginning he has been disregarding the advice of the generals on the ground. Of course, what do you expect from a couple of draft dodgers like Bush and Cheney. Maybe that's why Cheney shot his friend; he never learned how to use a gun because he ran away when his country needed him. By the way, I am on the right side of the Iraq war. Two-thirds of the populace thinks that the war was a bad idea. I have a suggestion...why don't we bring our troops home and the one-third that supports the war can go and fight, but that would mean putting your money where your mouth is and you can't have that, can you?
You really need to read more. Last I heard we are winning in Iraq. Even your Liberal buddies in the MSM are coming around to understand that...as I previously stated...I guess that was beyond your comprehension. Strike one!
Howard lost primarily because of the Asian vote and the internal dynamics of Australian society, like his "Work Choices" labor program that angered the unions. His support of Iraq had little to do with the loss...Strike two!
You failed to address the Constitutional definition of treason which makes people like you, who attack our troops and our mission thereby giving aid to our enemies, traitors. Simply declaring your love of our country and accusing me of being Joseph Goebbels is not a relevant response. I am certain that most traitors would tell you they love their countries. That does not excuse their behavior, it only proves how foolish and naive they are. Stike three!
Ah...then we come to the inevitable Liberal idiot diversion...whenever you are losing an argument bring out the old attack the President and Vice-president line. Never directly address the topic, especially when the facts are against you. Strike four!
So you think that simply because the majority of American have now decided the war is a bad thing, that puts you on the "right side" of the issue. I guess that means that when the majority were in full support of the war, you were on the wrong side of the issue. Strike five!
One can therefore conclude that you believe that whatever the majority believe is the "right" policy no matter what it may be. Therefore, in the 17th & 18th centuries, slavery was the "right" thing to do;[Strike six] in the 1940's segregation was the "right" thing to do [strike seven!]. I see. Very interesting view of right and wrong you have there, shifting morals for shifting times; no right or wrong, only what the "majority" believe.
Bring up Cheney's hunting accident, an event which happens hundreds of times every year....more diversion and ad hominem attack.Strike eight!
Ah, and finally the old chicken-hawk canard. The final playing card of a losing hand. Liberal desperation at its finest. When all else fails, accuse your adversary of being a chicken hawk. Irrelevant, sophistic, strawman. The logical corallary is that one needs to put on a policeman's uniform if one expects to be protected by the police, or one needs to be a fireman to call the fire department. Faulty (but typical Liberal idiot) argumentation. Strike nine!
The inning's over. Thank-you for playing.
By the way...The country is spelled Iraq and Brown is withdrawing his troops because the Iraqi military is performing the job in Southern Iraq. Tony Blair was about to do the same thing.
We are doing the same thing. American troops are already being drawn down due to the success of the troop surge. The first 5,000 are already being brought home.
Oh! I bet that hurts! Still sucks to be you...even more now. Like I said you Liberal Idiots always hide your identities so that no one know who just got slam-dunked...cowards one and all.
This is another “Mission Accomplished” moment. This is another Rumsfeld “cakewalk” declaration, or another one of Cheney’s grand pronouncements that the insurgency is in it’s “death throes.” Wow, you are really delusional…How do you know we are winning? You blame the media for lying about how bad the situation in Iraq is, but once they mention that something good happens, then all of a sudden it’s valid. You change your positions more than the shifting sands of Iraq .
Still your conservative counterparts lost in Australia. You cited Sarkozy and Merkel in Germany as examples of conservatives doing well worldwide. You still can’t discount that the Iraqi war debacle still had an effect on Howard and on Blair.
How am I attacking the troops? How do I provide aid and comfort to the enemy? Please give me concrete examples. This is a red herring argument. You dismiss all dissent as treason. You are doing exactly as Goebbels did. If you really want to talk about treason, let’s look at the republican party. I agree that the Taliban and Saddam are our enemies, but didn’t Reagan and Rumsfeld provide support for the Taliban against Russia, and didn’t they also support Saddam against Iran. So, by your definition, the icons of the Republican party are traitors as well.
Please elaborate…what are the facts?? If you know, please let everyone else know.
I was always on the right side of the issue when the war started. Those against the war knew that the American troops would not be welcomed as “liberators”. We knew that the war would not be a cakewalk and that it would increase the amount of terrorist attacks worldwide (which it has done). Everything that the Bush administration said would happen didn’t happen. The neocons have been wrong every step of the way, and they can’t stand the fact that reality has a liberal bias. Don’t give this argument about shifting morals for shifting times; ethical absolutes from a moral relativist. Conservatives were the ones who condoned slavery and segregation. Just look at history, you have no valid argument here.
Hypocrite…you engage in ad hominem attacks in your invective…how are you any different than anyone else?
Yes, the old chicken-hawk canard. Well it’s true…most of the architects of the Iraqi war (Bush, Rumsfeld, Pearle, Wolfowitz, and Cheney) never served a day in their lives. If the argument is irrelevant and sophistic, so is your treason argument.
As I see it…game, set, match.
Thanks for the spell check.
By the way, Merry Christmas.
Actually delusion becomes apparent in your denial of reality. It has been the Left who have been beating the drums of defeat from the beginning citing stories from their buddies in the MSM as proof. I have never been so gullible as to believe the press, I believe the troops, the commanders, and those who have actually been to Iraq...all of whom, even your congenital idiot pork-barrel king Mad Captain Jack Murtha admitted the truth before he was called into line by your Stalinist Democrat leaders.
I never said Howard didn't lose, I only disagreed with the cause you stated, which of course was erroneous (as are most "facts" cited by the Left). Therefore you comment is irrelevant.
Everytime you claim our iminent defeat, everytime you demand for the troops to be withdrawn, everytime you tell our troops we can't win, you are attempting to undermine the moral of our people and our troops. Everytime you give al Qaeda talking points with they, in turn, echo back to us and to their Muslim audience, you are undermining our efforts to defeat them. When you repeat our enemy's propaganda, you are being seditious. Ever heard of Berlin Betty or Tokyo Rose?
Democrats and Liberals in general have never been credible or reliable in war since WWII.
We can begin with Roosevelt and Trumans betrayal of Eastern Europe with their deals they made with "Uncle Joe" Stalin. The fact that both men kept known communist operatives in their governments even after they were told about them-Alger Hiss (known Soviet agent and creator of that wonder of wonders the United Nations), Harry Dexter White (who was named as head of the International Monitary Fund and World Bank, after he was identified as a communist).
Liberals were wrong about Mao, even going to the extent of placing an embargo on arms shipments to the army of General Chiang Kai Chek, literally starving them of ammunition. Those are the actions of Truman, Acheson, and Marshall; true patriots one and all.
Then of course we have Truman's betrayal of MacArthur and the South Korean people, thus causing the 55 year problem (and ongoing) of North Korean belligerence.
We can move forward from there to Democrat's and Liberal Republicans like Ike Eisenhower's idiotic belief that Castro was sympathetic to the West...hint he wasn't.
Then of course Kennedy's betrayal of the Cuban freedom fighters. A more cowardly act in our history would be difficult to find...we had a carrier sitting just a few miles away from the Bay of Pigs, but Kennedy and his little yellow band were too afraid to act.
Let's move on the Vietnam. We were so close to winning the war outright by our bombing the that General Giap of the NVA has just written a book saying that they couldn't believe that we stopped bombing. They were literally one day away from surrendering:
"What we still don't understand is why you Americans stopped the bombing of Hanoi. You had us on the ropes. If you had pressed us a little harder, just for another day or two, we were ready to surrender. It was the same at the battle of Tet. You defeated us. We knew it. We thought you knew it. But we were elated to notice that your media was definitely helping us. They were causing more disruption in America than we could in the battlefield. We were ready to surrender. You had won."
What they hadn't counted on was the cowardly Left-wing and the Democrats who wanted to surrender...and finally did.
But then surrender wasn't enough, after Nixon negotiated a very good peace accord with Hanoi, the Democrats broke their word again and abandoned the South Vietnamese. Just like Chiang Kai Chek, they refused to provide the logistic support they promised. Ever talk to a former member of the South Vietnamese Army? I have. What the Democrats did to them was unconscionable. His words were heart wrenching...except of course to a Liberal like you..."We fought, we were winning, then...we have no bullets. We cannot fight more."
The words are burned into my memory. But that still isn't enough, let's keep going.
Democrat's wanted to unilaterally disarm in the face of the Soviet Threat. You were terrified when Ronald Reagan faced down Gorbachev and refused to abandon the SDI. You cowards cried that he was going to destroy us...whoops wrong again. Reagan was right, your side was wrong...again.
Then there was Grenada. Your side laughed at Grenada, but for the Cubans it was no laughing matter. They considered it a major defeat.
But of course you Liberals weren't through yet, you abandoned Honduras to Noriega's terrorist Communists. Luckily you weren't able to intervene in time to destroy Honduras as well. We conservative managed to save them from your reign of anti American activity.
Sudan? Can you say "Cut and Run like a Democrat? Boy that got Osama bin Laden's attention there. Probably the biggest factor encouraging him to attack America...and he would have been proven right had you Liberals been in charge. AlGore would probably have done the same thing as Bubba Clinton and declared victory after lobbing a few missiles at an aspirine factory.
And...let's not forget the Clinton/Carter/Albright "successful treaty with North Korea." Isn't it amazing how effective that treaty was? Why we don't even have to worry about them developing a nuclear weapon anymore...CAUSE THEY ALREADY DID! They were violating the treaty before the ink was dry.
So...after 60 years of absolute and complete incompetence, you want me to trust you Liberals in dealing with Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran? YOu must think Americans are really stupid to think that we would buy that one.
That my friend is game set and match.
