Boys Will Be Boys-Not Girls
After reading the following, I am moved to speak out:
Imagine that, the drugs are over-prescribed when they are allowing teachers and principals to determine whether a child is truly hyperactive or not.
ADHD may actually be a syndrome, I doubt it, but it may be. But it is highly unlikely that it would affect 10% of all boys or even 1% of all boys. What is really happening here is that we have a society of teachers and adults in authority who are unwilling to spend the time and effort necessary for dealing with adolescent boys. What is being called hyper-activity is normal male adolescence.
Boys are competitive, boys are active, boys are strong-willed, BOYS ARE NOT GIRLS. We have invested far too much effort in this society emasculating males. Tamed, hermaphroditic, effete, metro-sexual boys are not the norm. Boys fight, boys play army, cowboys and Indians, and cops and robbers. Little boys like rough and tumble games. They like guns and knives; are fascinated by boxing and wrestling; pursue combat sports, because it is in their genes and the only way you are going to change that is by destroying that which makes them boys.
I have a great suggestion, why not instead, just castrate them at birth, then those “harried” teachers and other adults won’t have to spend the time and effort with them to help them deal with the problems which male adolescents routinely face.
It is much easier to throw pills at them than it is actually to deal with them. Why sit down and work with a little boy when you can chemically turn him into a little well behaved girl, or some facsimile thereof?
I’m sure there are a lot of women out there, especially those in NOW, NARAL, the NEA and other extreme leftist organizations who would applaud this path.
It takes time and compassion to deal with little boys. Why go to all that trouble when we can just throw some pills at them and all will be well. Never mind that we are destroying a few of them, never mind that we are stifling their individuality and growth, at least they will behave.
After all, today’s working mothers, fathers, teachers and society in general, preoccupied as they are with the acquisition of material things, just don’t have time to spend supervising the little trouble-makers.
We don’t take them to church because the get restless sitting still for an hour and a half; gee, they must be hyper-active. They talk loudly in class; gee, they must be hyper-active. They keep staring at little girl’s breasts or trying to peak up their skirts; gee, they must be twisted and hyper-active, send them to a psychiatrist, put them in therapy.
It is time for society to take a good hard look at itself. Boys are obnoxious. Boys are combative. Boys do require more attention. That does not make them sick, it makes them boys.
Much to the dismay of shrill harpies like Maureen Dowd and Kim Gandy, boys are not the same as girls, and men are not the same as women. Most people have some awareness of this fact. Some people actually embrace this fact.
There are actually some families who deal with adolescent boys by spending time with them, teaching them, and entertaining them. They don’t reach for a pill every time a little boy over reacts. They know how to discipline them, how to instruct them, and how to nurture that which is naturally granted them.
These rare people are usually called Conservatives (or extremists by the MSM). The press' favorite description of them is “Extreme Right-Wing Christians,” and they want to have as little to do with them as they can.
Imagine a society in which men and boys are treated as equals instead of vermin. Believe it or not, society actually used to be like that. Don’t worry though, the Left has done everything it can to destroy that society and have put us on the path to a genderless, soulless, un-spirited, easily tamed society.
We need more Ritalin boys!

Several drugs widely used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder should carry a prominent "black box" warning because of reports that they may have caused sudden deaths or serious complications, a federal expert advisory panel recommended yesterday.
The proposal to require a warning on medications such as Adderall and Ritalin took the Food and Drug Administration, pharmaceutical companies and advocates by surprise. The panel voted 8 to 7 to call for the labeling change after reviewing reports of several dozen patients who suffered cardiac arrest, toxic reactions or sudden death while using the medications.
Members of the board said the recommendation was driven as much by worries that the drugs are being overused in the United States as by the possible side effects: About 10 percent of 10-year-old American boys are taking such medications, and there have been recent sharp increases in the number of adults taking them.”[Emphasis added]

In 23 years of teaching, in a couple of surban districts, I have never found this to be the case. Just the opposite, in fact.
Usually early in the year we would sit in a meeting and be told that we were in no way to "diagnose" our
students. Not only is it not professional to do so, it could raise leal issues.
